My Take on Lamar Tower

Lamar Tower is one of Houston's original high-rise condo towers and while it's had its ups and downs, it's currently very much in favor as the area around it becomes more and more in demand. It's also a throwback to when high-rises were built as vertical neighborhoods with large condos that live like single family homes in the sky. That's the case here where even the smaller 2 bedroom condos are around 1600 square feet with formal dining rooms and large bedrooms. It's not uncommon to find 2 bedroom condos here that are over 2000 square feet. Over the last 60 years many of these places have been renovated but every once in a while you might find a time capsule on the market where you can lean into a vintage nostalgic or strip it down to the studs and create your dream home.
Something I hear from every person that has lived here is how professional and discreet the staff is, from the manager all the way down. That's important, and Lamar Tower has had that reputation for a long time. The amenity list is long and hard to replicate in newer buildings too. You'll find a beautiful outdoor pool surrounded by manicured landscaping, a modern fitness center, welcoming attended lobby, pet park, community room with catering kitchen, valet parking, concierge and more.
Now keep in mind that older buildings cost more to maintain and you have a full-service building with a staff that has to be paid. That means the HOA dues might seem high at first. But remember that on top of the cost of the amenities, maintenance and staff you have all your utilities included in that monthly HOA payment, including cable TV. You're also getting a lot of square footage for your money here. Be sure to take all that into consideration when comparing Lamar Tower to other similarly-priced buildings.
